Job Title: Head - Labour Workforce Management and Relations

Location: Mumbai, Head Office

Reports To: Executive Director - Operations

Primary Responsibilities :

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Manage Labour Strategies: Formulate and execute strategies for effective labour management, including recruitment, deployment, and retention of skilled and unskilled workers to meet project needs.
  • Build a Reliable Sub-Contractor Network: Identify, assess, and onboard subcontractors to ensure a dependable labour supply chain for various construction sites.
  • Ensure Compliance with Labour Laws: Oversee adherence to relevant labour laws and regulations, addressing compliance issues proactively.
  • Improve Workforce Efficiency: Initiate programs to enhance productivity and efficiency, including training, skill development, and performance management.
  • Handle Labour Relations and Conflict Resolution: Serve as the primary contact for labour disputes and grievances, ensuring fair treatment and resolving issues to maintain a harmonious work environment.
  • Coordinate with Site Teams: Work closely with project managers and site supervisors to understand labour needs, manage workforce allocations, and ensure smooth project execution.
  • Track and Report Labour Metrics: Develop reporting systems to monitor key metrics such as labour costs, utilization rates, absenteeism, and turnover, providing insights to the executive team.
  • Negotiate Labour Contracts: Lead negotiations for labour contracts with subcontractors and labour unions, ensuring cost-effectiveness, fairness, and compliance with policies and legal requirements.
  • Drive Health and Safety Standards: Promote a safety-first culture, ensuring that all labour practices comply with safety standards.
  • Foster Relationships with External Stakeholders: Build and maintain positive relationships with labour unions, regulatory bodies, and other external stakeholders to facilitate smooth operations.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Industrial Relations, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years in labour management, industrial relations, or human resources, preferably within the construction or EPC industry.
  • Knowledge: Extensive understanding of labour laws, regulations, and compliance requirements in India, especially in the construction sector.
  • Skills:
    • Strong negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficiency in SAP ERP or similar management systems.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage diverse teams.
    • High integrity with a proactive, solutions-oriented approach.
    • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to dynamic environments.
